Yes, we really had a flaming tuba (sousaphone).
Done in 2004/2005, probably using Photoshop, from an image of the flaming Dartmouth College Marching Band tuba. I've always been fascinated with the color that the flames changed into, and I have no recollection of what I did in PS to get to this point from the original.
